Q. Why is each presentation limited to one class of students (limit 38)?
A. The student limit in each presentation is now a hard and fast rule. We have made exceptions in the past and have had artifacts broken and stolen, as well as a noticeable drop in the quality of the presentations for each individual student.
1. Our presentations are very interactive. We try to make eye contact and speak to as many individual students as possible as we give our presentation. We realize that if we loose their attention, they aren't learning!
2. With the help of the teacher, we need to monitor students as they pass artifacts, to make sure they are using the "museum protocol." The safety of the artifacts is very important.
3. It is easier to identify and isolate occasional dispruptive students in a smaller group.
We know that since our clients are teachers in California, we are "preaching to the choir." You already know how important the student to teacher ratio is. We would not expect you to effectively teach with a class of more than 40 students either, and we support all California teachers in their efforts to keep their class size down. We appreciate all that you do!
Q. What equipment or space will the presenter need at our school?
A. The ideal space for the presentation is a classroom (an empty or extra room is ideal, if you have one)- it is easier to be heard and command attention in a smaller space and children are most attentive and comfortable in a classroom.
We can present in a variety of indoor spaces like libraries and low-traffic multi-purpose rooms when absolutely necessary, these are not optimal spaces for the presentation, but they can work if closed off from outside interuptions.
We are also willing to move from class to class if need be, which might be a better option if the only other space is a noisy cafeteria.
We ask that desks be pushed to the sides or back of the room, and the student chairs be placed in three straight even rows, no spaces, like a mini movie theater. Desks cause problems for artifact safety and keep the students too far apart from each other and fromt he presenter.
The presenter only needs a small table or student desk for the artifact box, and a place at the back for the last student to set down the artifacts.
For the Medieval Tournamet, the sword fighters will need one big table, and if your assembly group is very large, a microphone- if you have it available.
Q. Must I pay a deposit to schedule presentations?
A. No! We understand that it is unlikely that your funding source will advance cash to you, and we like to avoid teachers having to use personal funds for a deposit. Of course, since we are a small business, we would appreciate it if we are notified as far in advance as possible of any cancellations or changes.
Q. How does pricing work?
A. For example, if you have three sixth grade classes, you would schedule us to come perform three presentaions (let's say you choose The Egyptian Afterlife.) The cost would be $625 total for that day. There are no additional fees, all travel fees like gas, tolls and hotel costs for the presenter are already included.
If you add more programs at your school for any grade level, you can also get a discount if there are 5 or more individual class presentations. So, if for example let us say you also scheduled The Roman Legion program later in the year for those same three classes, you would get 10% off of *both* days, so you would pay $560 each day instead of $625 each day. It would also apply to other grades, like if your fifth grade teacher wanted the American Revolution for her classes as well.
5-8 class presentations 10% off
9-12 class presentations 15% off
13+ class presetnations 20% off
(Bulk discounts do not apply to the Medieval Tournament)
Q. What happens if I don't have payment on the day of the presentation?
A. As a small business it is best for us to get payment as soon as possible, we pay our employees as much as we possibly can and sometimes covering payroll is a challenge, but if your district procedures will not allow payment to be processed until after services are rendered, we understand, and just ask that you let us know in advance what the payment arrangements are.
Thank you for working with us!
